Help Us Help Flood Victims

We continue to help flood victims in our city the best and the most that we can. GMA News reports:

“As of Friday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said the number of fatalities had gone up to 1,080 and 1,979 injured. But the number of missing people also went up to 1,079 compared to 51 as of 6 a.m. Thursday.

“The NDRRMC also said Sendong had affected 102,899 families or 674,472 people in 766 villages in 52 towns and eight cities in 13 provinces.

“Of these, 13,090 families or 48,980 people are being served in 45 evacuation centers.

The estimated damage to property stood at P1,033,131,515, including P1,031,195,100 in infrastructure and P1,936,415 in agriculture.

“At least 9,433 houses were destroyed while 18,616 were damaged.”

There is no electricity, water and food in most areas. Two families (church members) have been evacuated and are now staying in our house. All our church members and friends need water, food and candles. Disease outbreaks are looming. Worse still, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) warns of more rains, floods and landslides over the weekend.

“There may be no good cheer on Christmas for survivors of Tropical Storm ‘Sendong.’ While no storm is in sight, monsoon rains at the weekend are likely to blanket wide areas of the country and trigger floods and landslides not only in Mindanao and the Visayas but also Luzon, particularly the Bicol region, weathermen said Wednesday.” – Philippine Daily Inquirer (www.inquirer.net)

We want to reach out and do more to help but we are short on finances. We need to give potable water, food, medicine and other basic necessities to flood victims. We also need to build new houses for the two families-evacuees in our church.

Please do all that you can to help fill the needs of our suffering brothers and sisters here. As you help, we encourage you to remember the words of our covenant Lord:

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.'” (Matthew 25:34-36)

We hope that you can help God’s suffering people in our city.

Rev. Glimar “Glem” Melo
Pastor
