By Pastor Glem Melo
We thank the Lord for continuing to give us life and strength and for opening doors for new modular Theological Training classes all over our nation.
REGULAR WEEKLY CLASSES IN CAGAYAN DE ORO
In 2011, we launched our Theological Training Program in Cagayan de Oro City. Today, we have 5 pastors and 5 workers in this program. Three (3) classes are conducted weekly:
- Introduction to Biblical Theology and Ministry (3 hours) by yours truly
- The Reformed Faith: A Study of the 1561 Belgic Confession (1 hour) by Rev. Carl Vermeulen of the Free Reformed Church of Darling Downs (Australia)
- The Gospel Preserved: A Study of the 1618-19 Canons of Dort (2 hours) also by yours truly
As a fruit of these classes, we are seeing renewal and reformation in the hearts and lives of our students. Churches are being impacted by God’s word and the vision of evangelism and church planting is being intentionally and passionately pursued.
FIRST MOBILE CLASS IN METRO MANILA
In August last year (2012), with the help of partner churches and ministries, we served flood victims in poor communities served by the pastor and members of Unida Evangelica Iglesia de Cristo in Marulas, Valenzuela City. Through the project, the Lord opened doors for evangelism and the establishment of weekly Bible studies and outreaches. More importantly, a modular introductory class on Biblical Theology and Ministry was started in the church. So far, we have conducted 24 hours of teachings on the basics of the Christian faith, life and service to our brothers and sisters there. As they continued to benefit from the teachings, the Lord also used them to inspire and encourage our vision to plant our mobile training program to other cities and towns as well.
FIRST QUARTER 2013 EXPANSIONS
Today, I am thrilled to report that the Lord has blessed our training program with new mobile classes in 5 different cities/towns. In these classes, 2-day introductory lectures on Biblical Theology and Ministry are conducted quarterly. More than 70 pastors, leaders and workers from south Philippines to the north attend the trainings.
With God’s grace and blessing, these great and unexpected expansions can lead to the fulfillment of our vision: the reformation of existing churches and the planting of new congregations where there are none, leading to the multiplication of reformed churches in our beloved nation. We covet your prayers and support.
CLASS #3: DAVAO CITY
We conducted our very first Theological Training class in Davao City on February 21 and 22. Pastors of Living Water Churches and staff and workers of Jesus Disciple Movement attended the class. Their major focus is on campus ministry. As students were evangelized, discipled and eventually graduated from college, churches were planted to preserve the harvest.
Through our training program and the discussions between sessions, they received much encouragement, edification and instruction to continue spreading the gospel in both their churches and in the campuses, and to intentionally pursue obedience to the Lord in reforming their local congregations. We pray that they will take God’s call to life, church and mission reformation seriously and act on it through faithful and consistent Biblical studies and perseverance in its personal and ecclesiastical application.
CLASS #4: TAGUM CITY
The following week, on February 25 and 26, we conducted our very first 2-day Theological Training class in the southern rural region of Mindanao. The 12-hour introductory lectures on Biblical Theology and Ministry were attended by 24 pastors and leaders — 19 from Davao del Norte and 5 from Compostela Valley. It was clear that the trainees received much blessing, renewal, encouragement, edification and instruction for life, family and ministry, especially on the centrality of the preaching of the gospel of Christ’s life, death and resurrection and the Bible’s teachings on covenant living and ministry.
For the furtherance of the program in the city, we identified 7 pastors and workers who showed signs of integrity and faithfulness in the work of the Lord. With that, we arranged for part 2 of our training class on April 29 and 30. As before, our main goal is to identify, equip and mentor pastors and workers with whom we can partner and work together in the vision of reformation and church planting.
CLASS #5: COMPOSTELA VALLEY
During this trip, we also visited and ministered to our evangelical brothers and sisters whose homes were totally washed out by superstorm ‘Pablo’/‘Bopha’ in Andap, New Bataan. They constitute more than 30 of 128 families that live in tents in the local school vicinity.
- In the morning, I was privileged to encourage and strengthen them with God’s word during their inter-church service. The public classroom was filled to capacity, with many sitting and standing outside for worship, the preaching and prayer.
In the afternoon, our team visited the families of the 5 pastors in their tents.
- After the visitation and fellowship, we proceeded to conduct a short seminar on Gospel Ministry in Emergencies Situations. Thirteen (13) pastors and more than 10 members from the different churches were equipped to keep their main focus on Christ’s great commission agenda even as they continue to suffer and live with non-believers in their tent city.
In the evening, our team went to visit the Power of Faith Church in Compostela town. Their small worship center was filled to capacity with more than 60 worshippers. Once again, I was privileged to preach God’s word to those present. The liberating and edifying gospel of complete redemption and security in Christ was clearly proclaimed to the hearers. The call to repent and believe and to bear fruits of obedience and service for God’s glory and kingdom was powerfully declared.
While in Compostela, our hearts were burdened for the local ministers’ lack in Biblical training. We thank the Lord for the 5 pastors from Andap who attended our class in Tagum City. But to teach and train more pastors and workers in Compostela Valley, we need to plant a separate on-site training class exclusively for those who are serving and ministering to flood victims-survivors. Please pray as we work this out.
CLASS #6: MALOLOS CITY, BULACAN
After our teaching, training and ministry visits in the Davao region, we flew to Manila and traveled to Guiguinto and Malolos, Bulacan to meet with new pastor-friends. We thank the Lord for turning them to the God-centered faith. It is our prayer and hope that the Holy Spirit will use our Theological Training Program to lead them and other pastors and workers in their province towards a thoroughly Biblical faith, life and ministry. Our first 2-day class is scheduled to be conducted on April 22 and 23.
CLASS #7: ALICIA ISABELA
Our next ministry trip was in my beloved hometown – Alicia, Isabela. There, from March 5th to the 7th, I conducted 2 Bible studies and a Gospel Seminar. I also spent time encouraging and mentoring leaders of the biggest evangelical congregation in our province. Having received much edification and instruction from God’s word, they requested us to plant a modular training class for their Bible study leaders. The 1st 8-hour teaching session is scheduled to be conducted on April 19 and 20.
More than ever, we need the partnership of God’s covenant people worldwide in prayer and supplication.
- Please pray for the pastors and workers whom we are training in Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Tagum, Compostela Valley and Metro Manila. May the Lord sanctify and equip them for the cause of the gospel in their respective areas.
- Ask the Lord to grant blessing and success to our plans to establish new Theological Training classes in Malolos, Bulacan and Alicia, Isabela next month (April 2013). May the Lord prepare the hearts of the pastors and workers and give them understanding, faith and obedience through the Holy Spirit.
- Join us in beseeching our covenant King and Father to provide for all the financial needs of our mission, especially that of our now nationwide Theological Training Program.
